“The first thing you’ll notice about Hillary Langford Taylor’s Dendron is the voice–flitting about, stopping short, spinning on its heels and dashing back the way it came. And yet, this is not a flighty prose, but rather a measured symphonic chaos. A poetry that invites you into the deepest, most present, most vulnerable processes of Taylor’s mind and the real-time reflection demanded on the poet to write and write well. Yes, there is rage, and melancholy, and spiritual erosion, but this is not the poetry of a raging infinite sadness. Rather, it is the poetry of infinite reflections and the reconstitution of a fractured self through lyric beauty. All the while conscious and skeptical of the performative histrionics that such virtuosic confessionals entail.”
